Content pruning
Also called: content cleanup, content optimization or content remediation
Content pruning is the process of reviewing, improving, merging or deleting existing content. The goal is to increase the quality of a website. Especially pages with low traffic, outdated information or limited value often qualify for content pruning.
Why content pruning is important
Search engines don't just rate individual pages. They also look at the overall quality of a Web site. A large number of weak pages can affect the performance of strong pages. Content pruning helps to clean up irrelevant content and provide more focus within a Web site.
During a content pruning analysis, you look at statistics such as organic traffic, rankings, conversions and timeliness. Some pages deserve an update. Other pages you merge with similar content. Pages without value are removed completely or redirected to a more relevant page.
