Web browser
Also called: browser, internet browser
A Web browser is a computer program that makes it possible to surf the World Wide Web, that is, view Web sites on the Internet. Web browsers allow Web pages to be downloaded from the Web and convert the source code to a graphical display on the screen.
What web browsers are there?
Well-known Web browsers are Internet Explorer (Microsoft), Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari (Apple) and Opera. Most browsers are available for all major operating systems(Windows, OS X and Linux). Special browsers are available for mobile devices. These can be mobile versions of web browsers mentioned above, or browsers developed specifically for a mobile operating system.
Although the way Web browsers should interpret Internet languages such as HTML and CSS is defined in standards, slight differences exist between the various browsers. When developing a Web site, it is important to test the Web site in multiple browsers to make sure the site looks and works properly in each browser.
What are browser windows?
A browser window is the screen in which a Web browser displays Web pages. Each window may contain one or more tabs, allowing users to easily switch between different Web sites without opening multiple windows.
Most browsers offer features such as incognito or private mode, where the window does not store browsing history or cookies. For multitasking, it is possible to open multiple browser windows simultaneously, which is useful for users who want to combine different tasks or keep an overview.
