Forwarder
Also called: alias
A forwarder or alias is a name that refers to another address.
With e-mail, a forwarder provides an extra alias; mail addressed to the forwarder is automatically forwarded to the mailbox or e-mail address set at the forwarder. If desired, multiple recipients can be linked to an e-mail forwarder. A special type of forwarder is the catch-all, which forwards all mail addressed to addresses within a domain for which no mailbox or forwarder has been configured.
Forwarders can also be used with domain names. These ensure that a website can be reached through different domains.
With domains, there is a distinction between forwarders and aliases. An alias makes the website accessible under an extra domain name, where this extra domain name remains in the address bar of the browser. In fact, this amounts to a copy of the original website (which is less ideal for SEO). With a forwarder, the visitor is redirected to the actual address of the website, which also appears in the address bar. This can also be a page other than the home page.
