Chatbot
A chatbot is a software application that allows you to talk live with a virtual employee. The term is a combination of the terms chat and robot. The technology behind a chatbot is a pre-image of artificial intelligence. Chatbots able to interpret the user's messages and questions and respond to them with answers and possible follow-up questions.
Most chatbots are part of a website, where they can be accessed by visitors through their web browser. They can also be deployed within communication platforms such as WhatsApp, Skype and Facebook Messenger.
Common functions of a chatbot include answering frequently asked questions and helping people find information. The advantage of a chatbot over an employee chat function is that a chatbot can be made available 24/7, without the use of additional staff. Although the technology is getting smarter, a chatbot is especially suitable for handling simple questions and problems. With some chatbots, conversations are transferred to a real employee when the artificial intelligence is unable to arrive at an appropriate answer.
