Conversion attribution
Also known as: conversion attribution
Conversion attribution is the attribution of a resource to an (online) conversion.
Web statistics and cookies can be used to determine through which website, search engine and/or advertisement a visitor came in before proceeding to place an order.
Sometimes the conversion results from multiple visits by the customer to the website, through different sources. In this case, different models can be applied to assign the conversion, such as the first referral or just the last referral. Sometimes a conversion is assigned or distributed to multiple targets.
Conversion attribution makes it possible to determine the value of an external hyperlink, keyword or advertisement. Within affiliate marketing, conversion attribution is used to pay out a fee to the right affiliate.
