Descending
Descending means that a design extends to the edge of the printed material. Think of photos, illustrations or background colors that do not have a white border. In other words, the design does not stop exactly at the cutting edge, but intentionally extends a little further.
why bleed is important in print
In printing, a machine cuts the final size from larger sheets. This process is never 100% exact. Without bleed, a thin white edge may appear along the edges of your design. This looks sloppy and unprofessional.
This is why printers use an extra margin, also called bleed. Your design extends a few millimeters beyond the final size. After cutting, this part disappears. This keeps your design tight to the edge and prevents errors in the final result.
