A commercial is a form of advertising that can be broadcast in a commercial break on radio or television. The main difference between television commercials and radio commercials is of course that on the radio only audio can be used, where advertising on television can consist of both image and sound.
Online commercials
Commercials can also be shown on the Internet. In websites that feature large banner positions, commercials are sometimes shown within a banner. Another way to broadcast online commercials is prior to online videos in the form of a preroll.
The distinction between advertising through commercials and advertising outside of commercial breaks is also referred to as spot versus non-spot.
