Clickbait
In clickbait (literally: click bait), headlines with links to articles are exaggerated, making them more likely to be clicked. The reader becomes curious about the information. Once on the website, the actual content does not match your expectations. As a result, clickbait articles feel misleading. The actual content of the linked page may differ from the impression given in the anchor text (link text).
This principle is regularly used by news websites. They know that stimulating text gets better clicks. It is sometimes said that based on headlines alone, you can distinguish between quality media and more sensational media.
Within online marketing, clickbait can be a deliberate choice by the advertiser to generate more traffic within the marketing campaign.
Scams with clickbait
Scammers also make extensive use of suggestive and falsely worded texts and advertisements. Practices such as fake news and celebrity-bait can be used to influence public opinion and take money from victims.
